Located in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania Riverbend teaches environmental principles to children in Southeastern Pennsylvania through a direct connection with nature, inspiring respect for our natural world and action as aware, responsible and caring citizens. Riverbend is a dynamic and growing organization serving 19,000 individuals annually through our education programs. Our purpose is to “grow greener children” by connecting them with the natural world through immersive, hands-on education.

Director of Development – Full-time position.


Riverbend is seeking an experienced, versatile and results oriented development professional. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director of Development will be responsible for the planning and implementation of the Center’s fundraising initiatives. He/she will work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to broaden the donor base and steward existing donors. Working with a small and collaborative staff, the Director of Development will be a dynamic member in a team oriented work environment. In search of a creative and strategic thinker who will contribute to the overall advancement of the organization.


Organize a systematic approach to the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift prospects.
Significantly enlarge the number of major individual and corporate prospects being cultivated.
Serve as development staff to the ED and Board and coordinate and support their work.
Prepare all necessary correspondence, reports, proposals and other fundraising materials.
Participate with staff and Board members in the cultivation and solicitation of donors.
Organize recognition activities for donors.
Maintain database of in-depth information on major prospects.



A minimum of five years of experience in fundraising including a successful track record in major gifts fundraising and  direct interaction with major prospects.

Bachelor’s degree required.

Exceptional writing skills.

Exceptional interpersonal skills.

Prospect research experience required.

Raiser’s Edge experience required.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Ability to work with colleagues and volunteers at all levels.

Broad knowledge of a sophisticated development program.

Ability to maintain all information with appropriate confidentiality.

Enthusiasm for Riverbend’s mission.
