Director of Marketing: Independence Seaport Museum

Major Responsibilities

Marketing

  • Preparation and implementation of a comprehensive marketing program for image enhancement and positioning in the tourism marketplace and with the general public and stakeholders.
  • Manage, protect and communicate the ISM brand to ensure consistency and integrity, both internally and externally.
  • Oversee the preparation of collateral and advertising material, supervise and select creative agencies, and provide regular evaluations of the effectiveness of the same.
  • Provide oversight of the ISM website, social media program and monthly newsletter.
  • Represent the Museum at tourism and community-related events.
  • Preparation and management of marketing/PR budget.
  • Event coordination in terms of museum promotion. Gallery openings, public events, etc.

Public Relations

  • Develop and implement an annual public relations plan for museum programs, exhibits, activities and key personnel.
  • Supervise the media relations function and serve as spokesperson as appropriate. Identify and cultivate media and tourism contacts. Serve as primary contact for city tourism entities.
  • Recommend and supervise public events as appropriate in concert with ISM staff.
  • Develop promotional opportunities with key partners.
  • Coordinate request for filming, photography and use of ISM brand, facilities or personnel for PR purposes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5-7 years in marketing, marketing communications or public relations, with a demonstrated track record in raising institutional visibility.
  • Experience in overseeing the design and production of printed materials and publications.
  • Commitment to working with shared leadership and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with media relations.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Work sample demonstrating ability to plan and implement marketing or public relations strategies.
