Chief Operating Officer: Big Brothers Big Sisters Southeastern Pennsylvania (BBBS SEPA)

Big Brothers Big Sisters Southeastern Pennsylvania (BBBS SEPA), the premier youth mentoring organization in the state, seeks a Chief Operating Officer to oversee and direct the agency’s internal operational activities including financial management, information technology, facilities, human resources and all aspects of agency services as they relate to daily operational and budgetary needs. This positions reports directly to the CEO and serves as a member of the agency’s Leadership Team.


1. Provide leadership and input for all strategic plan implementation processes; maintain a system for tracking and reporting on the progress of the strategic plan and develop new processes and approaches to achieve it.

2. Serve as an effective and inspiring leader through active involvement in all programs and services; develop and implement training programs and retreats to expand the capacity of staff.

3. Develop and coordinate the operations plan and budget to ensure completion and alignment with the strategic plan and overall direction of the organization.

4. Oversee the organizational performance management process to ensure that work systems and processes perform at an optimal level and produce high quality services while decreasing costs and increasing revenue; develop and implement improvements to systems and processes in response to data.

5. Directly manage the Administration division staff and functions, which include facilities, information technology, human resources, finance and accounting. Provide oversight to the program team as it relates to operations and financial management.

6. Ensure the continued financial viability of the agency; responsible for all agency expenditures as they relate to the annual budget, financial oversight and reporting, and annual outside audit review.

7. Evaluate, create, and execute operating policies and procedures in conjunction with oversight requirements, relevant laws, best practices and quality control.

8. Develop and maintain significant partnerships that further enhance agency performance in the areas of financial management, risk management, legal oversight and review, and relationship development.

9. Direct and participate in acquisition and growth activities, inclusive of due diligence evaluative efforts, to effectively support the overall agency decision making process regarding potential expansion opportunities.



Academic: Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree. Master’s degree preferred.
Professional: At least 10 years of successful senior level experience in a non-profit environment. Must possess extensive experience in budgeting and fiscal management with a track record of successfully leading an organization with a complex array of programs and services. Ability to analyze and review legal documents and contracts and work with house counsel as needed.

Requirements: Be willing and able to work full-time; have viable transportation, valid driver’s license and insurance to meet job responsibilities; be willing to work with diverse populations and diverse areas, as well as flexible to accommodate job responsibilities and able to travel when necessary.

Candidates should be results driven with a proven track record of exceeding goals, have strong written and verbal communication skills, possess the ability to think strategically and anticipate future consequences, be action orientated and promote a focus on operational agility to meet changing customer needs, have an exceptional capacity for managing and leading people including the ability to effectively communicate to staff key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals, posses a thorough understanding of finance and human resources and an unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.
