Job Description: Promise Corps Project Director

The Mayor’s Office of Community Empowerment and Opportunity and the West Philadelphia Promise Zone are seeking a Promise Corps Project Director to spearhead the launch of the Promise Corps program, supervise its day-to-day operations, and help ensure its sustainability and impact. The Promise Corps is a program implemented in five West Philadelphia schools in which 25 AmeriCorps members will provide college and career readiness counseling to students. The Project Director will supervise two Promise Corps site supervisors, who will be responsible for the daily supervision of AmeriCorps members and coordination with school administration and faculty. The Project Director will liaise with project partners including principals, School District of Philadelphia administration, Promise Corps supervisors, and education service partners who provide college and career readiness services. The Project Director will be responsible for managing the Promise Corps budget, and support efforts to raise additional funds from local grant makers. The Project Director will coordinate and maintain ongoing communications with our project partner, Youth Policy Institute (YPI).


Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree preferred. 6-10 years of experience required.

Successful characteristics include: Leadership experience with program development and implementation, management experience, including staff supervision and support required, experience working with educational programs, college and career readiness programs preferred. Ability to foster relationships with diverse partners, work as part of a team, outstanding written and verbal communication skills, experience guiding the initiation of a complex program, and in managing its early phase of implementation. Experience managing complex budgets between multiple organizations and, experience managing AmeriCorps programs highly preferred.
