Assistant Director of Development: Independence Seaport Museum

The Assistant Director of Development is a key supporting role in Independence Seaport Museum’s four person development team.  S/he will assist with research, cultivation and stewardship efforts, and will help to engage and inform donors to foster their connections with the museum.  The ADOD is responsible for routine gift and data entry, prospect research, generating timely acknowledgements, composing correspondence, organizing cultivation and fundraising events, and individual prospect pipeline management.  The ADOD reports to the VP of External Affairs and coordinates with the Director of Development. S/he works as a team player within and across departments to advance the mission and vision of the Museum.

Qualifications:

o   Must have a four-year college degree

o   At least 2 years relevant experience with nonprofit cultural organizations required

o   Raiser’s Edge or similar database experience strongly preferred

o   Excellent communication abilities, including writing/editing skills and phone manner

o   Ingenuity and attention to detail

o   Capability to maintain all information with appropriate confidentiality

o   Ability to function independently in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects and meet timely deadlines

o   Friendly, organized, reliable, flexible, patient, enthusiastic, team player

 Duties:

o   Process donations

o   Draft and send accurate and timely acknowledgement letters

o   Plan and coordinate annual fund and other mailings

o   Follow up on donor inquiries

o   Assist with development, organization and implementation of fundraising and donor events

o   Produce database reports and queries on a regular basis

o   Produce mailing lists from RE as needed

o   Conduct funder and donor research and update RE profiles and files accordingly

o   Perform data entry and database administration on an ongoing basis

o   Attend Museum events and meetings as necessary

o   Attend workshops and seminars to strengthen personal knowledge of non-profit field as time and funding permit

o   Other duties as assigned

 Summary:

Independence Seaport Museum seeks an outgoing and organized individual to be our Assistant Director of Development.  This is an excellent position for someone who has recently completed a MA/MS program for cultural non-profits.

Must have a four-year college degree, customer service and Raiser’s Edge experience a plus, ingenuity and attention to detail required.  Must have ability to function in a flexible, fast-paced environment on multiple projects and meet timely deadlines.  Reports to the Vice President of External Affairs.

Duties include but are not limited to: processing donations; research; coordinating mailings; answering donor inquiries; assisting with the organization and implementation of events; performing data entry and database administration on an ongoing basis; attending Museum events and meetings as necessary.  Occasional weekend and evening hours required.
