WHO ARE WE?

University City District is a 17 year old special services district dedicated to increasing the economic vitality of University City. Through an approach that couples comprehensive safety services and public maintenance; public green space development and vibrant cultural events that activate the neighborhood we work to make University City a better place to live. We change places and we change lives as well through our award winning workforce development arm, the West Philadelphia Skills Initiative (WPSI). For the past 5 years we have been setting the bar on how to effectively connect unemployed West Philadelphians to career ladder employment opportunities with University City’s premier employers. WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

The Training Center Manager is in charge of all aspects of managing WPSI’s Training Center. This position has three key responsibilities:

  1. Fill the seats in our program.
  2. Hold the line on quality throughout our programs.
  3. Produce the bottom line numbers that drive our program’s success.

Clearly this role is a key player in our organization. S/he is responsible for all aspects of marketing, recruitment, selection and assessment for our program. S/he manages the day to day logistics while programs are in session. S/he manages all of our data systems and is ultimately responsible for the integrity of that data. Lastly s/he serves as the main interface for job development/placement for our program graduates.

Leadership– ability to monitor, assess, respond to, and create internal and external changes required by our mission.

Adaptive– ability to create and sustain a vision, to inspire, to model, to prioritize, with strong decision making and clear judgment, with the ability to provide clear and effective decisions to achieve WPSI’s objectives; an innovator who to meets the dynamic and changing needs of our target population and market opportunities.

Management– proven ability to identify and utilize resources (staff, facilities and products) effectively and efficiently.

Technical Capacity– the resources, skills, experience, knowledge, and aptitude to manage the oversight of WPSI’s multiple data systems.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND KEY ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Adult Education, Training, Human Resources, Business Administration, etc.). Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum two (2) years’ prior training, teaching, or related Human Resources experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience; operations management experience preferred.
  • Clear ability to write proficiently, excellent platform and facilitation skills are required.
  • Highly organized professional who is at ease facilitating large groups, making presentations and conducting one-on-one counseling sessions with participants.
