William Penn Charter School, a co-ed, Pre-K-12 independent Quaker School, seeks a full-time Director for the Center for Public Purpose to begin in the 2016-17 academic year. This is a 12-month position.

The Director will:

  • advance the mission of the Center
  • build upon and increase key partner relationships with Philadelphia organizations
  • sustain and grow strategic outreach programs with partners
  • promote the Center for Public Purpose by working collaboratively with: students, faculty and parent and alumni groups, faculty involved in service learning, and Marketing, Communications and Development Offices
  • support faculty to integrate the work of the Center into the Pre-K-12 curriculum
  • recommend new initiatives and creative opportunities for the work of the Center for Public Purpose
  • evaluate program effectiveness with: measurement tools, feedback from partner organizations, feedback from Penn Charter constituencies
  • maintain and build participation in professional organizations, such as National Network of Schools in Partnership (NNSP) and Private Schools with Public Purpose (PSPP)
  • supervise and work collaboratively with an Assistant Director for the Center for Public Purpose (to be hired after the Director is hired, with input from the new director)
  • teach a class as appropriate
  • report to Assistant Head of School

Desired Characteristics:

  • proven administrative experience and communication skills
  • school experience
  • demonstrated history of public/community service
  • proven ability to network effectively with community organizations
  • ability to work well with the Penn Charter constituents (students, faculty, parents, alumni) and link them to community organizations for mutual benefit and learning
  • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred
  • understanding of Quaker education and/or the Religious Society of Friends
