The Old City District is a Pennsylvania municipal authority that provides a range of services and promotional support for one of Philadelphia’s most unique, dynamic and interesting neighborhoods–a community that’s “Independent by Design.”

Our mission is to improve Philadelphia’s historic district as a place for people to meet, work, shop and live. The new Marketing/Outreach Coordinator will play a key role in implementing programs that supplement municipal services, such as maintenance, public safety, economic development and marketing.

The Old City District is a 22-block area bounded by Florist Street to the north, Walnut/Dock Streets to the south, 6th Street to the west and Front Street to the east. Please see our website for more information:

About the Marketing/Outreach Coordinator Position:

We are now searching for the right candidate to oversee and help us shape our community-building and outreach activities, including social media, event coordination and person-to-person communication with residents and business owners.

  • Social Media & Online This position will lead OCD’s online marketing efforts, develop new content for all channels and build audience and engagement among potential visitors, current residents and business owners. Channels include major social media platforms, OCD’s website and email newsletters. Will also be responsible for creating content schedules, conducting background research, creating and posting content and ongoing measuring of traffic and performance.
  • Events This position will require the ability to coordinate with neighborhood stakeholders and Director of Operations to produce and promote major community-wide events like our annual Old City Fest.
  • Person-to-Person This position will require going out and getting to know our neighborhood, the people who live here and the business owners who make it such a unique, inviting place. These in-person interactions are critical for both generating social media content and improving the communications flow between the District and those we are here to serve.

The position reports to the Old City District’s Executive Director. The selected candidate will also work closely with the Old City District’s Board of Directors and its Marketing Committee.

Required Skills/Background:

We are looking for someone with demonstrated marketing, promotion and social media skills. Additionally, qualified candidates should have:

  • Effective communication skills, including excellent grammar and writing skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all major social media platforms, uses and performance measures.
  • Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple responsibilities; good organization skills.
  • Ability to work independently, and as an effective team player.
  • Photography and/or videography skills are a huge plus!
  • Availability to attend meetings and events on some evenings and weekends.

Office Location:

The selected candidate will be expected to work primarily from the Old City District’s offices at 231 Market Street in Philadelphia. Attendance may also be required at meetings in other locations from time to time, mostly within Old City or elsewhere in Center City Philadelphia.
