Director of Education & Strategic Initiatives: Riverbend Environmental Education Center

Under minimum supervision, responsible for all aspects of an innovative program team that plans, develops, implements and evaluates education programs to meet the mission, vision and strategic goals of Riverbend Environmental Education Center.

The Director of Education and Strategic Initiatives is responsible for the leadership and management of the Center’s education program staff. This position reports directly to the Executive Director. The Manager of School, Scout and Outreach Programs and the Manager of Children and Family’s Programs report directly to the Director of Education and Strategic Initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and collaborating across departments to develop and implement education programs:
  • Collaborating with the Executive Director relative to: 1. The development of innovative and strategic education programs 2. The development and maintenance of  program partnerships 3. Significant expansion of existing programs
  • Collaborating with the Director of Development relative to development initiatives, grant funding, communications and overall public relations and marketing pertaining to the education programs
  • Collaborating with the Volunteer and Property Manager relative to land management initiatives that support the education programs
  • Leads strategic and innovative education initiatives to expand Riverbend’s role as a leader in environmental education
  • Conceives, develops and oversees implementation of new education programs, including the expansion of aquaponics initiatives and summer camp
  • Oversees curriculum development and content,  program design and budgets for education programs
  • Planning and administering overall education program budget, ensuring a stable financial position for the programs
  • Represent and promote Riverbend as an expert relative to environmental education on committees, panels, and guest speaking opportunities
  • Develop and maintain connections with the local and state education and environmental education professional communities
  • Hires, trains, mentors, supervises and evaluates program staff
  • Oversees day-to-day activities of program staff assignments, responsibilities and schedules
  • Maximize quality of all education programs
  • Coordinating overall work to be accomplished and resources available to do so
  • Foster autonomy, authority and accountability relative to the leadership and management of the specific program areas
  • Oversee and approve purchasing of all education supplies
  • Teach/lead programs as necessary
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

  • BS Sciences, Education; Masters Sciences, Education
  • 7-10 years’ experience in professional educational program development and management
  • Proven management skills
  • Exceptional teaching skills
  • Grant writing, grant implementation experience
  • Creative and innovative thinking
  • Good communicator, proven relationship building skills
  • Self-starter, highly motivated
  • Strong work ethic
  • Good computer skills
