Associate Director for Major Gifts: Penn Museum

Based at and part of the team at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (Penn Museum), the Associate Director, Major Gifts, will report to the Museum’s Director of Development and work closely with the Director of Major Gifts. The Associate Director, Major Gifts, will manage his or her own starting portfolio of approximately 90 major gift prospects ($25,000 and up), maintaining a prospect visit schedule of 8-10 per month, cultivating and soliciting major gifts towards the Museum’s key fundraising priorities, including the Building Transformation renovation and new galleries project. The Major Gifts Officer will take special responsibility for the ‘Members get a front row seat’ initiative, soliciting naming gifts for seats in the Harrison Auditorium with multi-year lead membership gifts.

The Major Gifts Officer will also work with other frontline Museum and DAR fundraising officers to engage the Museum’s many constituencies as major gift prospects.

BA/BS; three to five years of development experience, preferably in a cultural institution, including direct solicitation of major gifts; solid administrative experience, and ability to establish objectives, set performance standards, and organize a successful approach to achieving fundraising results; demonstrated ability to work with significant autonomy, and collaboratively, as part of a goal-oriented team essential; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; excellent communication skills, both oral and written; occasional evening and weekend work, travel and valid driver’s license required. Ability to understand, appreciate, and articulate the Penn Museum’s mission and strategy, and the important role of Development in executing both.
