Communications Director: Delaware River Waterfront Corporation

DRWC is a 501(c)(3) created in January 2009, exclusively for the benefit of the City of Philadelphia and its citizens. The fundamental purpose of DRWC is to design, develop, program and maintain public amenities such as permanent and seasonal parks, trails, and streetscape improvements to transform the waterfront into a vibrant destination for recreational, cultural, and commercial activities for the residents and visitors of Philadelphia as is consistent with the goals of the Master Plan for Central Delaware. Daily programming throughout the year is changing the way Philadelphians see and converse about the waterfront, and is helping to create spaces and communities that connect residents and visitors to the waterfront. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Communications and Programming.


  • Oversee the general strategy for communications, marketing and branding
  • Coordinate and Integrate internal and external communications efforts
  • Facilitate/manage public input and catalogue feedback in a cohesive fashion
  • Draft communications correspondence on behalf of President and Vice President, including but not limited to Quarterly President’s Reports, Year End Reports, Collateral, Speeches, PowerPoints, etc…


  • Develop communications calendar and seasonal communications campaigns
  • Write all press releases and maintain press list and active media network
  • Maintain database of all press mentions via google alerts, social, and aggregators
  • Work with sponsorship fulfillment to gather all press insights
  • Research new outlets and publications to pitch
  • Identifies non-traditional PR/marketing opportunities like Industry nights, Instagram meet-ups, blogger nights
  • Coordinate Media coverage
  • Develop and Coordinate press events

Content Distribution & Management

  • Work with Marketing Manager to outline content strategy that integrates sponsorship fulfillment and events on collateral, social, website, and email
  • Promote content communication with DRWC audience via all channels including emails to subscribed database
  • Develop new social media channels (periscope, LinkedIn, snapchat, etc)
  • Digital Marketing & Website
  • Oversee digital marketing channels, specifically but not limited to website, email, and social media
  • Maintain up-to-date press room with press releases and downloadable photos
  • Use Google Analytics to determine how the website is being used and how it needs to be optimized
  • Work directly with web developers to add in new changes to keep the website current
  • Work with different departments to make sure that everything is being well represented on the website – development projects, resources for fishing and boating, contact forms
  • Overhaul website to reflect big events and seasonal changes
  • Build out blog content strategy
  • Integrate website with marketing efforts

Design & Multimedia

  • Organize and maintain large photo and video database
  • Hire and help direct photo shoots, develop videos for larger projects, and maintain B-roll
  • Oversee the design direction for invitations, collateral and ads
  • Coordinate with Event Production Team to make sure signage reflects communications messages


  • Maintain all budgets for photography, marketing and website


  • Make sure that all communications about sponsors are within guidelines
  • Create Communications Benefit Recaps for all sponsors

Event Production

  • Help to develop events that support communications and marketing goals
  • Manage press and media efforts at key events
  • Help to coordinate public outreach events


  • College Degree and at least 5 years of related experience
  • Media relations experience and local network
  • Excellent Writing Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience with online resources like YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and other social networking outlets
  • Ability to write and speak clearly, effectively, and concisely
  • Ability to engage professionally with sponsors and corporate partners
  • Ability to multi task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and Word Press type web programs
  • Hard-working with a low-ego and an ability to work with many different personalities
  • Some management experience preferred
