Executive Director: Help Hope Live

Help Hope Live (www.helphopelive.org) is a national nonprofit organization that supports community-based fundraising for people with unmet medical and related expenses due to cell and organ transplants or catastrophic injuries and illnesses. Since 1983, Help Hope Live has served more than 8,000 patients and families in need, helping to raise more than $127 million toward uninsured expenses.


Include: work with a management team to lead and oversee fiscal planning, budgeting and management, organizational planning and management, personnel management, information technology, fund development, marketing, communications and outreach. In partnership with the board of directors, the position also supports board development, committees, strategic planning, and the identification of new funding sources. The executive director establishes the public presence of the organization, representing Help Hope Live to its external constituencies.


The executive director reports to a board of directors and oversees a growing staff of 16 full- and part-time employees (including a senior management team of four).


  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in business, health and human services, social work, or health care field.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible management experience in relevant function(s) and field(s), with a preference of at least 5 years of nonprofit management experience.
  • Proven experience in managing rapid change, both from an organizational and market perspective, with ability to lead and build consensus.
  • Demonstrated fundraising ability including a demonstrated track record of success in fund development.
  • Exceptional in building and maintaining relationships with diverse constituents.
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to lead and coach staff and develop high performing teams (staff and volunteers).
  • Demonstrated experience in managing, and collaborating with a nonprofit board of directors, and identifying potential board and committee members.
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills, including the ability to present and speak publicly.
  • Ability to travel, both locally and nationally.
