Executive Director: West Philadelphia Alliance for Children

West Philadelphia Alliance for Children (WePAC) seeks nominations and applications for the position of Executive Director. WePAC is an independent 501(c)(3) corporation whose mission is to promote childhood literacy by engaging volunteers in Philadelphia public schools through re-opening and staffing libraries and academic mentoring.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to all aspects of WePAC. The Executive Director is responsible for securing and overseeing funding and other resources.  The Executive Director oversees a part time staff of two, in addition to interns, and is responsible for fiscal oversight of WePAC’s financial resources.

WePAC has been serving the West Philadelphia community since 2003, and since 2009 has been running its flagship school library program. WePAC has transformed abandoned, unused spaces in Philadelphia public elementary schools into vibrant, functioning libraries staffed by teams of volunteers who read stories and help students check in and out books.  During the 2016-2017 school year, WePAC libraries operating in 14 schools serving more than 5,000 children.  In addition, WePAC runs a Library Buddies program in which literacy mentors are paired with individual students needing extra help with reading.  WePAC has more than 150 dedicated volunteers and WePAC programs are very well received in the schools.  Currently, there is a waiting list of schools that would gladly join the WePAC program.

The Executive Director must be passionate about the mission of WePAC and be an effective independent contributor who also is a strong team builder. Management experience and demonstrated ability to foster effective collaborations among wide-ranging constituents is required. The Executive Director must be an effective leader and communicator and an inspiring community leader.  Bachelor’s degree is required.
