Senior Director of Development: Committee of Seventy

The Committee of Seventy is seeking an energetic, organized seasoned professional to assist in growing and developing Seventy’s base of corporate and foundation support.  Based in Philadelphia, Seventy is a longstanding nonprofit, nonpartisan advocate for better government in the city, and in the Commonwealth of PA.  It is led and funded by private sector leaders who understand that an open, transparent and competitive political culture, and effective and efficient government, are essential to our future growth and prosperity.

This Senior Director position provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to leverage the Seventy brand and its full assortment of programs and initiatives to make a direct impact on the citizens of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania.  The Senior Director will be instrumental in enabling the success of Seventy, and will do so by interacting with a talented, passionate, and personally vested team of staff and Board leaders. The Senior Director reports directly to the President and CEO.

Specifically, Seventy is looking for a candidate to:

  • Provide staff leadership to the Nominating and Governance Committee to plan and execute strategies that grow and strengthen Seventy’s Board and their corporate and individual support for the organization
  • Provide staff leadership for all aspects of the Seventy’s Anniversary Luncheon including corporate fundraising and production
  • Work with the CEO to develop new programs, events, and initiatives and secure the resources (corporate or philanthropic)
  • Work with the CEO to represent Seventy with external audiences and constituencies and develop programmatic partnerships in service to Seventy’s mission
  • Develop and maintain a culture, processes and procedures that promote a good working relationship between staff and Board leadership.

The ideal candidate should have demonstrated the following accomplishment, qualities and qualifications:


  • Proven record of ability to raise corporate and philanthropic resources
  • Demonstrated record of successful fundraising event management


  • Excellent written and oral communications and presentation abilities
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities

Personal Qualities

  • Possessing the “executive presence” necessary to work effectively with senior corporate, political and civic leadership.
  • Entrepreneurial initiative and resilience
  • Organized and goal-oriented
  • High quality standards
  • Sense of humor


  • Bachelors degree and at least 10 years experience in development and/or communications, preferably in a nonprofit, political, or public policy environment

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
