Director of Community Development: The Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County, Inc.

The Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County (DAP) works to prevent domestic violence and empower victims to move towards self-sufficiency. DAP provides counseling, advocacy, legal services and emergency shelter to victims.

The director of community development reports directly to the executive director; is a full time senior staff member and will manage the agency’s fundraising and communications program.

Essential Duties:

 Grant Research and Grant Writing

o Manage a robust grant portfolio and research and identify new sources of grant support, including foundation, corporate, government agencies and other prospects

o Write and submit grant proposals

o Write and submit follow up grant reports

 Planning/Development/Administrative

o Prepare a comprehensive Development Plan, in conjunction with the executive director, that includes short and long term goals to meet DAP’s funding objectives – establish policies, procedures and systems

o Prepare budgets (income projections and expenses) for development activities in conjunction with the executive director and the finance director

o Maintain appropriate records of gifts/grants, including mailing lists of donors and potential donors

 PR/Marketing

o Develop and implement a marketing and public relations plan to support fundraising efforts

 Develop and maintain relationships with media representatives

 Maintain database of public relations contacts

 Prepare fund raising brochure(s) and other public relations materials necessary to promote public understanding of DAP

o Create and manage monthly e-newsletter through online system (i.e. Constant Contact)

o Maintain social media presence including Facebook, twitter, and website

o Development and implementation of a quarterly agency newsletter

 Solicitation

o Plan and coordinate fund raising program activities; i.e. solicitation(s), campaign(s), special events, etc.

o Research and identify new sources of support, including individual, foundation, corporate, government agencies and other prospects

o Successfully solicit new revenue streams

o Plan and coordinate appropriate fund drives, jeans days etc. with area businesses

o Coordinate the solicitation of in-kind gifts

Other Duties:

 Prepare monthly report of activities

 Represent DAP as required/requested

 Participate actively in Management Team and committees as requested

 Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills Required:

 Knowledge of domestic violence issues

 Knowledge of development processes and fundraising techniques

 Grant research, strong writing skills and successful grant solicitation

 Organized with the ability to plan, implement and manage multiple activities

 Working knowledge of donor management systems

 Event planning

 Proficiency with Microsoft office suite, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint

 Familiarity with FaceBook, Twitter, Website management

 Desktop publishing software, Publisher, Adobe In-Design

 Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

 Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively both orally and in writing

 Flexibility to work nights and weekends as required for events

 Must have valid driver’s license, pass background check, ability to climb stairs and lift 50 lbs. complete 45 hour domestic violence training

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant experience or any combination of education,

training or experience which provides the necessary skills, abilities, and knowledge.

Five (5) years successful fundraising in a nonprofit social services agency with ability to write government and state and local foundation grants, experience developing and implementing special events, social media, donor development, budget development, donor database.
