Position Summary: 

The Development Services Manager is responsible for planning, implementation, and training related to Foundation-wide use and application of Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge database and other modules and products that are integrated in the future.  This position is the RE administrator, ensuring the integrity of the system, donor information, and development records, and supports the President, the Vice President of Development, and other executive staff, as well as the development staff, with RE generated lists, analyses, and reports.  This position is responsible for implementing strategies that provide the staff in major gifts, institutional and individual giving with the data needed as determined by best practices in the profession.


  1. Responsible to the Director of Development Services and Operations for the Development Services team’s production of daily and weekly gift reports,  overseeing the completion of daily assignments and specific tasks as assigned. Manage the data entry team’s daily and weekly work assignments/schedules to ensure that gifts are entered in accordance with IRS requirements and on the day they are received by development. Ensure the acknowledgement process is completed within the guidelines established by the VP of Development.
  2. Participate in daily gift entry and reporting on contributed revenue, ensuring that daily goals are achieved.  Inform the Director if and when volume of gifts exceeds staff capacity to achieve daily goals, ensuring that the Director is aware of the need to commit to the task and enlists other development colleagues as necessary.
  3. Provide the Director with contributed revenue results and comparison information needed for Board and Advancement Committee reporting and for the VP ‘s  weekly reporting on YTD results for the President.
  4. Establish and oversee processes to maintain accurate and current donor and gift records in RE ensuring that major life events are updated on a consistent basis.  Ensure data integrity, plan and complete data hygiene projects in collaboration with team members.
  5. Work with the Director and development staff to analyze data request requirements, help prioritize and schedule tasks assigned by the Director to deliver accurate, timely results.  Share responsibility with Coordinators for completing requests for queries and reports and ensure criteria is accurate.
  6. Retrieve donor information from RE by creating complex queries and create reports in Excel and various formats as needed for various purposes.
  7. Generate monthly lists of all pledges due for payment and other receivables for pipeline meetings and other applications.
  8. Establish and train development staff on procedures to record in RE all research, pipeline and prospect review, and solicitation notes.  Coordinate and oversee recording and tracking of donor and prospect information with development staff.
  9. Develop and implement a system of call reports to record cultivation and solicitation activities.
  10. With the Director, support enterprise-wide communications initiatives drawing names from RE and ticketing database and other sources.
  11. Support all fundraising activities by recording and retrieving appropriate cultivations, solicitation, and stewardship strategies in RE; manage the training of development staff on best practices in the use of media, action, notes, membership, prospect and proposal tabs consistently.
  12. Produce highly segmented lists for development officers as requested, including mailing lists (email and print mail) for events, publications, and other communications.
  13. Identify and correct duplicate records, merge records when appropriate, solve around other issues in the database as they are identified.
  14. Serve as a department resource and provide RE training to new staff as requested by the Director.
  15. Interact and communicate with co-workers to promote a harmonious and cooperative working environment.
  16. Other duties as assigned.


  1. Monitor, supervise and hold accountable all direct reports in the areas of attendance, completion of documentation, ADP and implementation of all company policies, procedures and protocols.
  2. Supervise and meet regularly with all direct reports to review operational metrics and provide ongoing guidance; document constructive feedback regarding job specific functions, responsibilities and competencies.
  3. Maintain written documentation of supervision for oversight and review.
  4. Serve to provide oversight of each employee’s work load and ability to assume additional responsibilities. Assist with enforcement of priorities and timely completion of work as assigned by the Director.


Extensive computer use, phone use.  Flexibility and ability to work evenings and weekends when needed to process gift volume at busy times of the year.


  1. A minimum of 2 years experience in development services, particularly with regard to Raisers Edge and related platforms.
  2. Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  3. Detail oriented.
  4. Ability to honor confidentiality and core values of the FLP.
  5. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  6. Advanced knowledge and proficiency with Raisers Edge data base, including gift entry, data integrity, query writing, exporting, importing, merging and data management.
  7. Proven organizational skills, ability to manage and prioritize tasks independently.
  8. Excellent work habits. Able to work independently, self- motivated,
  9. Flexible attitude in a changing and fast paced environment.
  10. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
