Communications Manager: Settlement Music School

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Public Relations, the Communications Manager serves as a member of a two-person department that is responsible for planning, development, and implementation of all of Settlement’s marketing strategies, marketing communications, and public relations activities. The Communications Manager will be coming at a very exciting time for the School.  Settlement will be continuing work on several new programs with national impact that will tie directly to work in the Marketing/PR Department and will include building diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, developing partnerships, growing enrollment and raising visibility for the School.

The School is looking for a dynamic, detail-oriented, and energetic Communications Manager who will assist in the development and implementation of a strategic communications plan that advances the mission and visibility of the School, that responds to the multiple streams of earned revenue, and that plays a key role in driving enrollment at its branches.

The Communications Manager will also be responsible for developing and maintaining the organization’s social media outlets as well as print and electronic materials. The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of effective corporate or nonprofit marketing and public relations practices.

The Communications Manager works closely with all members of the Central Administrative staff, Branch staff, Faculty, and Board.

Specific responsibilities for this full-time position include:

  • Work directly with the Director of Marketing and Public Relations to create and implement strategic marketing, public relations, and communications plans for Settlement
  • Serve as main producer of the School’s copywriting needs, which include the creation of newsletter content, web content, press releases, and other written materials
  • Manage the School’s social media feeds, which include pages on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter; in addition to regular postings, develop and carry out creative and strategic campaigns for engaging and growing the online following; provide regular engagement reports so that strategies for success can be adapted as needed
  • Manage the School’s Constant Contact email system, and, working with the Director of Marketing and Public Relations, standardize e-newsletter content and procedures; monitor open and click through rates regularly to create best practices
  • Manage and create content for the School’s website, www.settlementmusic.org; provide regular updates regarding web usage and statistics so that strategy for success can be adapted as needed
  • Create basic promotional materials—including fliers, concert programs, annual program book, and advertisements—using Adobe InDesign and other products from the Creative Suite; manage relationship with external graphic designer for more in-depth design needs
  • Serve as staff photographer and videographer as needed (sometimes on nights and weekends)
  • Serve as main point of contact for external vendors, including printers, photographers, and designers
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree, 3 years relevant experience, an interest in community arts, and be able to develop strong working relationships with Settlement’s multiple constituencies.  Candidates must be able to juggle multiple deadlines, have good writing skills, experience with publications production processes and social media, and a knowledge and/or interest in strategic marketing and planning. Design experience utilizing the Adobe Creative Suite is required. The candidate must have the ability to manage advertising campaigns on social media and effectively analyze results of those campaigns and trends in order to guide future initiatives. Candidates with a knowledge of Philadelphia and the non-profit arts community is a plus but not a requirement.
