VP, Human Resources: Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts

The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) is currently seeking a Vice President of Human Resources (VP of HR) to provide strategic leadership in optimizing PAFA’s human resources, including defining necessary positions, reporting structures, goal setting, assessment, training, on-boarding, compensation, benefits, and discipline. The VP of HR leads PAFA’s Title IX policies, procedures, and manages other compliance with local, state, and federal employment law. The VP of HR reports to the President and CEO and serves as a member of the Senior Staff.

The VP of HR will collaborate with the President and CEO and peers in Senior Staff to develop the human resources to fulfill PAFA’s mission at the highest level. He/she will develop and implement policies and procedures relating to hiring, on-boarding, training, discipline, and dismissal when necessary. He/she will serve as PAFA’s Title IX Coordinator, serving as the in-take for new complaints and ensuring that PAFA’s policies and procedures are current and that they are followed in the event of a complaint. He/she will serve as the liaison to the Human Resources Committee of the Board of Trustees, organize period meetings, set agendas in collaboration with the Chair, and provide minutes in a timely manner. This position will ensure compliance with legislation, legal requirements and government reporting and record keeping regulations at the local, state, and federal levels. He/she will provide counsel to managers and employees regarding employee relations concerns and questions regarding PAFA policies, procedures, and programs. He/she will develop and oversee the administration and communication of employee benefit programs such as life, health, retirement plan, and disability insurance. This position will also develop and administer annual goal setting and performance assessment, administer Equal Employment Opportunities programs, and assist managers/supervisors with the development of job descriptions and specifications. The VP of HR will contract with outside suppliers to provide human resources and employee services. In addition, he/she will develop and manage the HR department budget.

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources; master’s preferred. Qualified applicants will have at least 7 years’ experience in human resources and have knowledge of all functional areas of human resources including: general employment practices, staffing, HR development, compensation and benefits, employee and labor relations, health and safety and security. Qualified candidates should possess extensive knowledge of local, state, and federal law, including Title IX. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of strategic and operational practices. Candidates should have experience with HRIS systems. SHRM membership is required, PHR certification preferred. Experience working in an academic or cultural institution is preferred.
