Director of Fundraising: Literacy Access Fund

Literacy Access Fund™ is hiring an experienced, innovative, entrepreneurial and outgoing individual with a proven track record of fund raising and building partnerships with businesses to secure contributions for a newly formed 501(c)(3) organization. Literacy Access Fund™ was created to support literacy and early childhood education by providing financial support to libraries and other community-based organizations so they are able to purchase quality educational resources.

Objective

The Director of Fundraising will be responsible for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to grow a $1M budget in year one, through the solicitation of major gifts, grants, special events, and other support. In the next few years, as Literacy Access Fund™ continues to grow, the Director of Fundraising will be responsible for managing larger campaigns which are likely to range from $3-5M. Candidates must possess a professional and resourceful demeanor; the ability to work independently and as a team player; to take initiative; and, to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Candidates must have successful fundraising experience.

The Director of Fundraising reports to the Chair, Director and President of Literacy Access Fund™. This opportunity is a full time position. Preference will be given to candidates who reside in the Philadelphia area.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute Literacy Access Fund’s annual fundraising plan.
  • Develop and track proposals and reports for all fundraising.
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations.
  • Manage and oversee data entry and gift processing.
  • Develop a strong relationship with corporate clients to nurture and grow prospects to literacy resources for non-profit organizations, recurring revenue opportunities and event sponsorships.
  • Prepare and submit fund development pipeline reports and partnership tracking reports to management.
  • Lead the development of appeals, newsletters, success stories, promotional videos, and other fund and partnership development collateral.
  • Develop a quarterly report for corporate fundraisers to keep them informed on the value of their funding and to ensure recurring funding opportunities.
  • Work closely with the sales team to identify opportunities for sources and recipients of funding.
  • Oversee organization of special events.
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to be a self-starter.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with master’s in business, nonprofit management, public administration preferred.
  • 5+ years of fundraising experience in nonprofit management, fundraising and major gifts development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with high-net worth donors, corporate sponsors and foundations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required – the ability to gracefully handle rejection and bounce back assuring goals are met.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills required; ability to cold call, grow local contacts and build and nurture effective business relationships.
  • Detail oriented, adaptable, organized and demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects and tasks.
  • Understand the importance of early childhood education and experience in the field of fundraising in education is a plus.
  • Must be able and willing to travel throughout assigned geographic area and to work flexible hours (evenings, mornings and weekends as necessary).
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and CRM tools necessary
