Director of Communications and Marketing: Benefits Data Trust

Benefits Data Trust (BDT) seeks a Director of Communications and Marketing to raise awareness of how BDT is creating smarter ways to access key benefits and services so that people live healthier, more independent lives. This person will lead the expansion of BDT’s communications activities and the creation and implementation of a branding and marketing strategy to help the organization achieve higher levels of influence and impact during a period of rapid organizational growth and change.

The Director of Communications and Marketing reports to the Chief Strategy Officer.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Communications

  • Drive the creation and execution of a communications strategy to raise awareness of smarter ways to access key benefits and services among key stakeholders and policy influencers and leaders in support of BDT’s impact goals.
  • Oversee BDT’s relations with the media; significantly expand BDT’s media presence, including by serving as a spokesperson, supporting and developing the capacity of colleagues to be spokespeople, organizing webinars and events, and widely disseminating BDT products, including issue briefs and playbooks.
  • Contribute to and oversee a small team charged with managing media relations and BDT’s web and social media presence, and with developing communications resources, including fact sheets, blog posts, press releases, speeches, presentations, and BDT’s electronic newsletter which goes to more than 7,000 subscribers.
  • Support other BDT staff in effectively communicating BDT’s insights, innovations, and impact, and mentor them in the disciplines of communications and marketing.
  • Scan the environment for opportunities to advance BDT’s work and messages.

Marketplace Success

  • Develop and execute an aggressive and comprehensive marketing strategy to secure BDT’s prominent place as a leading innovator and doer in key markets, including benefits access, economic mobility, social determinants of health, technology for good, emerging technology and innovation, and social impact and innovation.
  • Lead efforts building and leveraging a cohesive brand.
  • Design and implement marketing campaigns to grow awareness and use of BDT’s products, services, and capabilities throughout the product life cycle.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • At least seven years of experience in communications and marketing, including senior management responsibilities, in business, government, philanthropy, or the non-profit sector.
  • Demonstrated achievement developing marketing and communications strategies, building internal buy in and coordination, and troubleshooting communications challenges.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills required, strong public speaking and presentation skills valued.
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in fast-paced and fast-growing organizations with strong, diverse, and ambitious cultures.
  • Expert knowledge of media landscape required.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills and demeanor.
  • Commitment to BDT’s values and to working collaboratively across the organization to support and communicate these values.
